October Update 2024
illuminate has had an encouraging start the the new term, reopening it’s drop-in youth sessions in Stroud and in Dursley. We had the privilege to host all of the new year 7s from Archway for a lesson in the Tin Church, sharing with them all about what it means to be part of a local church community. Many of those year 7s have visited our drop in session on a Monday. Isak has been leading the Tuesday lunchtime sessions in Archway, where the discussion has been rich with profound questions about life & faith. The Dursley session continues to reach new young people too but it has also suffered with now competing with the Rednock school production rehearsal time. Please pray for this group to find that right means to disciple these young people.
The group of young people that visited Satellites in the summer (in our previous newsletter) have had several reunions since then. The first being in early September, where they went to a Movement worship night in Bath and met with the Archbishop of Canterbury for the second time in one month! One might say he’s our new best friend. He encouraged our young people to pray with authentic stories from his life. The next gathering was an idea that came from one of the young people – A Bowling, Burger and Bible night! 13 young people came and had a great time. We shared a bible study on what it means to follow Jesus – Matthew 4:18-22, right in the middle of the bowling alley – an interesting experience indeed. Please continue to pray for this group as they meet to spur each other in their walk with God.
illuminate has had significant blessings over the course of the summer through successful grant bids. It is now in the position to recruit a youth worker to a substantial role to develop the project, which includes pioneering a chaplaincy-like model in a local secondary school, in partnership with the Growing Faith Network’s learning hub. Please pray that God lead us in our direction and guides the right person into the role. Watch this space!
